Run # 393 Banana Bar

The Banana Bar.

We are amazed at the kind of work Cockney Wanker with the yellow tape in his hand. A single hare from a different country managed to take us, local hashers, through places in Khar and Santacruz that we’ve never been to.

Yes, the run was awesome. It made a perfect 50 -60 minute run for the runners and a 90 minute walk for the strollers. With Cockney Wanker, we also realized that ignorance is bliss. The run took us from over the Khar station railway bridge. Now, usually one would require a ticket to cross that bridge but Cockney made it without getting caught and so did we. So, the run went from Banana Bar to the Station (Khar), onto the highway towards Santacruz, onto the other side of the highway, back to the highway from somewhere in Santacruz, onto the over bridge to the West and then we walked till the SV Road, Link Road and back to the bar.

(Are you guys kidding me, this was one hell of a crazy ass long run… lol!) But the run was so efficiently marked that Cockney did not even have to stand at any point. Back at the bar (this time on the 2nd floor), Tuborg started making its rounds alongwith chips and starters. Big screens flashed the cricket match between India and Australia and every now and then you could hear someone shout with joy or anger; with every run scored or every wicket taken.

Oh ya! Advait made it to the run… but you should know how. At 1700 hrs, Fubar gets a call from Advait and he tells me that he thought the run was at Casa Soul Fry and he reached there. Guys and gals! We have a winner here with the best excuse to not do the run.
He did make it to Bandra but only after the run got over. Lucky chap!

The party went on till around 9pm before everybody decided to head back home or a motel or a club or a brothel or a…..

Run # 392 Casa Soul Fry

Run # 392
Soul Fry Casa
Fort, BOMBAY.

We could not have celebrated the Bombay Hash Anniversary in a better way. It was a wonderful evening outside Soul Fry as one could see a lot of hustle bustle of people, native as well as foreign, with camera’s in their hand wanting to click everything that was going on a few meters away at the Kala Ghoda festival.

The run was also unique in its own way. It was full of lefts and rights and lefts and rights and lefts and rights and a few more of lefts and rights. So much turning insured that you got to see the maximum of south Bombay. The runners passed from places like the Central Bank of India,  Cross Maidan, Sterling, HSBC, JB Petit, Campion School, Churchgate Station, Marine Drive, LIC of India, Mantralay, Colaba, Regal and finally, the main attraction of the evening, THE KALA GHODA FEST.

Back at Casa, things were getting louder by the minute. As Tuborg did its rounds among people, Cumagain started singing to the lyrics on the screen. Yes! We had the pleasure of his wonderful vocal chords tearing up our ear drums for the next 5 minutes. :-P
Since this was an evening run, we did not manage a circle and there was no ice. However, lets get to know somethings that are worth knowing about this run:

1.       Cumagain, Fubar and Naysa hared this excellent run. It was around 8-9 kms long and was an easy run for people of all age groups. They did manage to run out of tape while haring the run. The last stretch of the run was marked with, hardly visible on the electric poles, yellow tape.
2.       This run was on the same day as that of the Derby. We did miss the horses gallop but that was covered by the way Cockney Wanker and Steve were running the course. They made the run look much smaller than it actually was. These 2 are the stallions of Bombay Hash.
3.       Some hashers came across markings of a particular previous run and followed it and got offtrack. Thanks to the yellow tape, it made it easier for them to distinguish later on.
4.       Fartashaty tried to act smart and jump up a barricaded chain… his camera fell flat on the ground and so did his b@ll$.
5.       Everybody realized that you don’t need a good voice to be a singer, a few beers would just do fine.

So, after a wonderful evening spent in a cozy joint in Bombay, hashers waved good bye and headed back home.

Imp: - A big thanks to the management of Soul Fry Casa for their service and the discounts that were offered.
Also, a very big thanks to Cumagain for arranging this venue for our evening run.

Run # 391 Parsee Gym No Tv Day

Parsee gym
No TV Run

History was made on Saturday when Bombay Hash, for the first time ever, did a city run on a Saturday. Well it was for a good cause so the day didn’t really bother us. Plus… hashers just need an excuse to get together, run and drink beer… the day doesn’t really matter…

The cause: Hindustan Times had organized a NO TV DAY and was encouraging activities that does not require sitting at home and looking at the idiot box.
The hash: is the kind of thing that one would love to do rather than watching T.V.

The petrol pump outside Parsee Gymkhana was bustling with people wearing similar tees… it said NO TV DAY on the left and the back said… Switch off your TV. Switch on Mumbai… yes, these were the t-shirts provided by Hindustan Times as they gave an extensive coverage to our event for the cause. There were people from Hindustan Times who participated in the run with BH3. There was another big gathering of crowd just a few hundred meters away from us, but that was to witness a major car accident that took place on Marine Drive, I am sure you guys checked it in the Sunday news. Anyway, surprises started pouring in the moment we started gathering at the pump. To begin with, Hindustan Times distributed t-shirts to everyone… secondly… now this one goes in caps and bold cos this was a big surprise…

THE ENTIRE HASH EVENING WAS SPONSORED BY HINDUSTAN TIMES, WHICH MEANT… NO REGISTRATION FEE, NO PAYING FOR ENTRANCE IN PARSEE GYMKHANA, NO PAYING FOR THE FOOD YOU EAT AND… NO PAYING FOR THE BEER… This was announced before the run started and came as a superb surprise to Bombay Hash. Thanks to the Hindustan Times team. A big thank you also goes out to  Ms. Poonam Bhatia for extending her support and also being present for the event and for giving Bombay Hash and extensive coverage in Hindustan Times.

Anyway, the run kicked off from the petrol pump under the bridge and took us along the Marine Drive promenade right till the Hanging Gardens where it was divided into 3 runs: Short, Medium and Long. The lovely evening breeze made it a beautiful run with no sweat. Along the way, we passed a gay, lesbian and transsexual pride marathon which ended at chowpatty. I think everyone was doing something or the other on the NO TV Day.

So, the run got over and the Parsee Gym ground made a perfect spot for after circle merriment. Kingfisher beer kept doing its rounds as veteran hashers gelled with new hashers, or as we call them, VIRGINS.

The circle was conducted without the ice:

FRB’s, most of which were first timers with the exception of Cockney, was brought in the center and sung for as they drank beer from their glasses (remember, no ice and piss pots). And yes, they were amazed with our choice of songs for them.

Next up were the hares who were applauded for the wonderful run laid down for us.

Fubar went down on his knees and elbow and a gentleman (NOT… :-P ) got to ride his back. The reason was just to let the newcomers know that we do have ice as a major part of our circle and since ice wasn’t there that night… we replaced it with Fubar.

Lastly, our hash anthem, which drew much attention from new hashers as well as the other guests of Parsee Gymkhana.

On! On!

Run # 390 Eapen Varghese Co.

Run # 390
Eapen Varghese Co.

That vincinity on the outskirts of Bombay is becoming a hot spot of venues for Bombay hash runs. We have so many places to run from from that area; Thakur estate, the infamous Huseni’s farm and now add to it ‘Eapen Varghese Co.’ thanks to Osama Bin Laden.

After travelling the distance in a very chilly and crisp morning, the whole bunch was anticipating the much awaited morning run. Registrations were over with and hashers waited as Baby Dick blew the horn and Bonsai announced the run.

The run was as short and simple as Bonsai is. But it was a very refreshing run where most of the time was spent crossing vast fields rather than walking on tar. I guess for the front runners, the run would have been over in like 40 minutes. All in all, everybody had fun and came back to cold beer in no time.

Back outside the Company, hashers targeted a circular wall with steps built around a tree as their fort. Onlookers saw as the entire bunch surrounded the tree and were sitting on the wall which was more like high steps. On top of the steps and at the foot of the tree were lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva (idols) having a good time with the merry bunch. We even managed to pull back Jaideeps car and play music for entertainment. Osama got bored and slept in the car. Justine got high on trance and almost fainted… later on we realized that it was a heat stroke… “darling! This is what happens when you don’t drink beer.”

The circle:
Hares Bonsai and Shining were cheered for marking a run for all the lazy buggers.

Jaideep was finally iced. This was his third run but he never got welcomed as a virgin on the ice. He was joined by Justine, Gulam Ali and Betty. They all had their first taste of beer from the piss pots.

Next on the ice was the entire team who manned stalls during the Mumbai Marathon. Those included were Sitting Duck, Running Fuck, Fartashaty, Wreckless, Fubar, Organ Grinder, Bonsai, Shining, Screwed Driver, Sole Seeker, Baby Dick, Clarifuck, Temton, Cockney Wanker and others from the non hashing community as well…

Next up on the ice were Fubar and Organ Grinder. Organ Grinder for not wearing a hash t-shirt, instead, having the entire team of Guns and Roses hang on to her… Fubar, he got iced because he decided to respect the concept of running by buying new shoes. And how do we treat hashers with new shoes on? We make them remove their shoe, pour beer in the shoe and welcome the shoe by making the owner of the shoe drink beer from the shoe (Literally!)… theres some hashing knowledge for you. So yes, Fubar drank beer from his left shoe, thanks Bonsai and Shining for the short run, which made the shoes less dirty and no sweaty at all…

Anyway, so after the circle and the anthem we moved back under the shade of the beautiful tree as we continued with conversations and biryani… bones for the dogs and we went back home.

Run # 389 ARC

Run # 389
Amateur Riders Club

Evening runs are gaining more popularity with hashers by every run. Last night at ARC was no different.

The run started at 1700 hrs and hares Fartashaty and Baby Dick showed their exceptionally well haring experience in the even wonderfully trailed run. Finally, the posh and high class face of South Bombay was shown to us as the run took us from the Race Course to Cumballa Hill, Peddar Road, US embassy, US consulate, Chinese Consulate, Cadbury and back to the Race course.

As always, the environment in ARC was electrifying with beer and starters doing its round over conversations and cricket. Wreckless made it to the post run ceremonies with broken ribs. Fubar got what we call ‘Chikoti’ (a whack on the head for getting a haircut)… from almost all of the hashing group, courtesy… Cumagain.

Since the entire upper section of ARC was booked and reserved for ARC, courtesy Bonsai and Shining, we also conducted a CWI (circle without ICE).

Hares Baby Dick and Fartashaty were applauded for the fabulous run. Some hashers complained of the run being a bit tad long but it was worth all the fun.

Virgins Gulam Hussain and Justine(Paris Plaster’s daughter) were welcomed to the hash with glasses of water as none of them drank beer.

Short-cutters Screwed Driver and Harsh Doshi got Kingfisher Ultra mild to soak their throats.

Jaideep and Nilesh were on their second run… but as there was no circle conducted on the last run, we honoured and welcomed them on this run.

Also, these 2 newbies were amongst the first ones to register for the nash hash… now that’s what we call the hashing spirit.

Anyway, so after the circle and ‘n’ number of beers and pizza’s we called it an evening… just 2 hours before the calendar would change its date… ON ON

Run # 383 Pebble Bay

Run 383
Pebble Bay Kitchen and Bar

The evening run has quickly gained popularity as we see a lot of hashers making a run for it. This time the evening venue was Pebble Bay Kitchen and Bar, a nice little hangout near Bandra Station.
The run was hared by Butt-ler and Suraja and they did manage to explore the side of Bandra which we never did. As we ran our way through the entire Bandra-Kurla complex, we covered a lot of Bandra East which, surprisingly, has not been covered.
The mood in the basement of the venue was electric. Most of the event was spent on planning the Halloween run which comes on the 31st October. “

We also managed to conduct a small circle as there was no one else in the basement but us.

Hares Butt-ler and Suraja were the only ones to get free beers and no one else did anything, to deserve free beer, but turn up.
